Grayscale AVAX ETF Opens In-Kind Access as Avalanche News Today Turns Bearish on Price

Avalanche news today is dominated by a pivotal institutional development: Grayscale Investments has unlocked in-kind subscriptions for its Grayscale Avalanche Staking ETF (GAVA), a move that lands just as AVAX’s price slides toward critical support levels and Wall Street debates whether the network’s real-world traction can actually lift the token.

On October 21, Grayscale opened in-kind subscriptions for eligible investors across 10 digital-asset products, allowing them to contribute crypto directly for fund shares without first converting their holdings to cash.

The approximate minimum contribution for the AVAX product is $235,800, based on prices from October 20.

The SEC cleared the path for this mechanism on July 29, 2025, when it approved in-kind creations and redemptions for crypto exchange-traded products through authorized participants.

The full Grayscale lineup also spans Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, Chainlink, Dogecoin, Hyperliquid, Sui, XRP, and Zcash.

For AVAX holders, the significance here is structural.
Grayscale says the in-kind structure reduces the burden of holding assets directly and cuts transaction costs, while offering access through brokerage and retirement accounts, collateral use, and portfolio-management tools.
In plain terms, institutional investors can now move AVAX into a regulated wrapper without triggering a forced sale — potentially reducing spot-market selling pressure each time a fund subscription occurs. Whether that translates to measurable demand in the near term, however, is a live question.

That question is being asked loudly by Charles Schwab.
Schwab recognized Avalanche as a leader in real-world assets and institutional use cases in research the firm circulated on October 21, 2026.

As of mid-October, Avalanche hosted 1,255 tokenized RWAs valued at more than $13 billion, a total that includes around $484 million held in BlackRock’s BUIDL fund.
Yet the brokerage giant’s analysts are not straightforwardly bullish.
Schwab’s concern is that activity on custom chains may take place outside Avalanche’s primary network, without creating a proportional increase in AVAX demand.

The report does credit the network with capacity above 4,500 transactions per second and favorable tokenomics thanks to the 720 million maximum supply and the burning of every transaction fee.
Still, the institution-versus-token disconnect is a narrative traders must weigh carefully.

On the regulatory front,
Avalanche joined other networks to seek formal “digital commodity” status from US regulators on October 21,
a push that analysts describe as neutral to mildly constructive for the long-term legal standing of AVAX.

Meanwhile, price action heading into the weekend has been rough.
AVAX traded at $8.94 at 4:26 a.m. ET on Saturday, October 24, down 3.70% over the prior 24 hours.

The token has now fallen 10.9% over the past week, closing at $8.91.

At the start of October, AVAX was priced at $10.93, meaning it has given back most of its September gains.

Avalanche ETFs had seen zero net inflows between October 9 and October 21. By contrast, Solana’s ETFs held about $1.66 billion in mid-October, roughly 30 times more than Avalanche funds.

Technically, the picture is under stress.
As of around 07:00 UTC on October 24, AVAX was trading at $8.99 on Binance spot, having printed a 24-hour range of $8.86 to $9.32, with the 3.57% drawdown leaving price structurally isolated below the SMA 7 at $9.42.

Investors are closely watching three key support levels: $8.85, $6.04, and $5.68, which mark AVAX’s 30-day low, 90-day low, and 2026 low, respectively.

What to watch next: the Schwab Crypto listing of AVAX remains a pending catalyst —
Charles Schwab plans to add Solana, Avalanche, and Chainlink trading for eligible retail clients by the end of 2026, with Schwab managing about $13.33 trillion in client assets across over 40 million brokerage accounts.
No firm launch date has been set. The $8.85 support zone is the immediate battleground; a clean hold there would give bulls a case to reassemble. A breach would open the door to a longer conversation about how far Avalanche news today’s institutional momentum can travel without the price following suit.
