Suspected Binance Hack Dominates BNB News Today as Billions Leave Hot Wallets

BNB news today is being defined by the most alarming development in the exchange’s history: a suspected large-scale hack of Binance hot wallets that sent shockwaves through the entire crypto market on October 29, 2026.
Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao said the exchange “was indeed hacked,” confirming what on-chain data had suggested after more than $2.5 billion left the exchange’s hot wallets for a Tornado Cash-funded address.

The first transfer landed at 20:24 UTC on October 29, moving 167,464 ETH — worth roughly $388 million by Etherscan’s valuation — out of the wallet labeled Binance 14, along with 63 other tokens including about $1.6 billion in Tether.

Twenty-four seconds later, a second wallet, Binance 16, sent another 28,005 ETH to the same destination.

The sender was funded through Tornado Cash and used a smart contract it deployed hours earlier.

The stablecoin industry moved quickly to limit the damage.
CZ acknowledged the hack and noted the $971 million and $823 million freezes carried out by Tether and Circle.

Together the two freezes cover about $1.79 billion, roughly two-thirds of the $2.77 billion in outflows reported across five blockchains. Stablecoin issuers can freeze their own tokens, but they cannot freeze ETH or BTC — so the roughly 195,000 ETH sent to the flagged Ethereum address and the about 16,700 BTC that left Binance wallets remain outside those freezes.

Binance said it is investigating “reports of a potential security issue” while stating that “user funds are completely safe.” CZ said it “does look like a hack,” and Tether confirmed it froze more than 1.567 billion USDT linked to the incident.

CZ, who no longer runs Binance.com, wrote that as a shareholder he expects “all user funds will be fully covered.”
For now, the situation remains unresolved, with no official breach confirmation from Binance itself.

For BNB holders and traders, the immediate consequence is stark uncertainty.
BNB had printed a 24-hour range of $744.35 to $762.20 on Binance spot earlier in the day
, but the alleged hack landing on the same day as a broader market dip adds meaningful pressure.
BNB was already down 0.69% to $744.01 in 24 hours, closely tracking Bitcoin’s 0.42% dip, primarily driven by market-wide risk-off sentiment following the Federal Reserve’s decision to hold interest rates steady.

This hack news eclipses what had been an otherwise constructive 48-hour stretch for the BNB ecosystem.
BNB Chain activated the Jenner hardfork on its BNB Smart Chain testnet, introducing Payment Lane (BEP-703) to reserve gas for eligible payment transactions during network congestion, with a default reservation of 5% of a block’s gas limit and a potential 10% cap via governance.

Mainnet deployment is expected in late November.
Separately, BNB Chain’s Q3 2026 metrics had turned heads earlier in the week:
the chain recorded $25.6 billion in tokenized-equity trading during Q3 2026, roughly eleven times the previous quarter, with Blockworks ranking it first among tracked networks for tokenized-equity trading, supply, and holder count.

The network’s 37th token burn also eliminated approximately 1.646 million BNB, representing around $1.2 billion in value.

On the corporate front,
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao attended a Nasdaq opening-bell ceremony on October 26, 2026, as BNB Standard Corporation celebrated its rebranding and leadership changes while promoting its position as the world’s largest publicly traded corporate holder of BNB.

BNB Standard disclosed 515,544 BNB held as of July 31, 2026.
That institutional confidence now must be weighed against the security cloud hanging over the broader Binance platform.

On the security front, Binance had just disclosed a close call days before the alleged breach.
The exchange said it fended off multiple cyberattacks linked to North Korean threat actors over the past week, with none of them compromising its systems or costing any assets.

Binance tied the attempts to a social engineering campaign called “Contagious Interview,” which uses fake hiring processes to get people to run malicious software on their own machines.

What to watch next: traders and holders should monitor Binance’s official communications closely for a formal statement on the scale and cause of the October 29 wallet outflows, any SAFU fund activation, and whether BNB price stability holds around key support levels. The Jenner hardfork mainnet date — currently targeted for late November — and the broader tokenized-asset narrative remain meaningful long-term catalysts, but near-term price action will almost certainly be driven by how the security situation resolves.
