If you’ve been running the Grass app and watching your points climb, you’ve probably asked yourself the same question every new user does: when do these points turn into something I can actually use? The answer is more nuanced than a simple formula — and understanding the mechanics will help you set realistic expectations and make smarter decisions about how you run your node.
**Points Are a Measure of Contribution, Not a Pre-Loaded Balance**
The first thing to get straight is what Grass Points actually are.
The dashboard shows a growing points balance, which can look like money in an account — it isn’t. Points measure your contribution, and they’re what your reward is calculated from at the end of a stage.
Think of them as a receipt, not a wallet.
Together, Grass Points track your participation and contributions to the Grass Network and are one of the factors used to calculate the Grass Tokens or USDC you may receive in future distributions.
**Two Types of Points, Two Different Jobs**
This is where most beginners get confused, because Grass Points are not all the same.
Grass Points are divided into two types that capture both the availability and usage of your bandwidth: Uptime Points and Network Points.
Uptime Points are earned based on the amount of time your device is connected to the Grass Network in a manner that makes your bandwidth available for use by the Grass Network.
Uptime Points are also awarded when you refer new users to the Grass Network who then meet the requirements to be considered an active referral, or when you reach certain milestones and are eligible for bonuses.
Network Points are earned when your bandwidth is actively used by the Grass Network to power web data requests.
Each day, a fixed pool of 1,000,000 Network Points is distributed across users according to the share of bandwidth they contribute.
This pro-rata structure matters: your slice of that daily pool depends on demand, your location, your connection quality, and network load on any given day.
The Grass network chooses which nodes to route traffic through on any given day, and demand for web data varies by region and by day. In practice, this means two users with identical setups in different cities can have very different daily point totals — and neither of them is doing anything wrong.
There’s also a display quirk worth knowing about.
Uptime Points tick up in real time whenever the app is connected with a Network Quality above 0%, while Network Points don’t move during the day at all — they appear only after the daily calculation process finishes.
So if your Network Points counter looks frozen, that’s normal behavior, not a bug.
**How Points Convert Into Actual Rewards**
Ready to start earning?
Grass Points break down into two types — Uptime Points and Network Points — and this updated system was first introduced and became effective starting in Epoch 11.
When a distribution stage closes, the team calculates your share of rewards based on your accumulated points across the entire period.
For Stage 2 of the rewards program, Grass made a significant structural decision.
In the interest of navigating ongoing regulatory uncertainty and to ensure that users based in all eligible jurisdictions may claim rewards in a timely manner, participant rewards for Stage 2 are being made available in USDC.
This is a shift from the GRASS token airdrops of Season 1.
The official conversion rates from the Stage 2 distribution give you the clearest picture available of how points translate to value.
Uptime Points were assigned a lower conversion rate of $0.00000007 USDC per Uptime Point.
That number sounds tiny on its own, but it scales with volume — and it also scales with the device multiplier you’re running.
As of July 2026, under the Stage 2 reward structure, the Android app and the desktop app earn points at higher multipliers than the Chrome extension, which earns at the standard base rate.
For Uptime Points, the advertised multiplier bonuses of 2x for the Desktop App and 3x for the Android App were awarded in real-time on a daily basis throughout Stage 2.
Network Points, being tied to actual bandwidth usage and the finite daily pool, carry more weight per point.
Users are rewarded based on their participation in the Grass Network as determined by their uptime on the application, the quality of the bandwidth they contribute, their location, the amount of their bandwidth actually used by the Grass Network, and any bonuses and referral rewards earned.
Critically,
for participants to be eligible, they need to have been awarded more than 0 Network Points during the eligibility period to receive a Stage 2 rewards distribution.
Being connected but never having any bandwidth routed through your node would leave you with Uptime Points only and no Stage 2 payout, so Network Quality on your dashboard is worth monitoring regularly.
**What You Can Realistically Expect**
Real-world outcomes vary significantly, and any source promising guaranteed dollar amounts per day should be treated with skepticism.
Real user experiences illustrate the unpredictable nature of token rewards based on accumulated Grass Points — for example, one user reported earning 35,000 Grass Points and receiving 23.9 Grass tokens, while another with only 2,700 points received 2.7 tokens.
These figures are from Season 1 and reflect the older, simpler points system, but they illustrate how outcomes are shaped by the total supply being distributed and your relative share of the pool — not a fixed per-point rate you can bank on in advance.
**The Practical Checklist**
To get the most out of what you’re earning, keep a few things in mind. Run the desktop or Android app rather than just the Chrome extension to benefit from the higher multipliers. Keep your device online as consistently as possible, since Uptime Points accumulate continuously. Check your Network Quality percentage on the dashboard — a reading of zero usually means your IP is being flagged as a datacenter or VPN connection, which stops both point types from accumulating. And always claim through the official Grass Dashboard at app.grass.io.
Grass will never DM you first, never ask for your seed phrase or private keys, and never run a check or claim through any other site.
The conversion from points to rewards isn’t a vending machine with a fixed price. It’s a proportional system that rewards consistent, quality participation over time — which means the single best thing you can do is run the app reliably and let the compounding of uptime work in your favor.
