The Grass referral program is one of the most powerful ways to multiply the Grass Points you accumulate — and understanding how it’s structured can make a real difference to your eventual airdrop allocation. Before getting into the mechanics, here’s the quick version of what Grass actually is:
Grass Network is a decentralized platform that connects users with AI labs and retailers, enabling participants to earn points by sharing their unused bandwidth.
Those points feed directly into reward distributions, so anything that accelerates your point total matters — and referrals are the single biggest lever most users have.
**How Grass Points work in the first place**
Grass Points break down into two types: Uptime Points and Network Points, which give a clearer picture of both the availability and usage of the bandwidth that you contribute.
Uptime Points are earned based on the amount of time your device is connected to the Grass Network, while Network Points are earned when your bandwidth is actively used by the network to power web data requests.
Both types feed into your overall score, but they carry different weight.
In the Stage 2 rewards distribution, Network Points were assigned the highest conversion rate, and Network Points earned via the Desktop App were awarded a bonus of 5x to the standard award rate.
That means keeping the desktop app running — not just a browser tab — is meaningfully better for earnings.
These points, along with factors like how your bandwidth is used and your location, help determine the Grass Tokens, or USDC, you may receive.
There is no fixed conversion rate guaranteed upfront:
points convert to GRASS tokens through seasonal airdrops, not continuous payments, and the conversion rate depends on how many people are participating and how many tokens are allocated to each season.
Set expectations accordingly — earnings are real but variable.
**The three-tier referral structure**
Once your account is active, you get a unique referral link. This is where the Grass referral program gets interesting, because it doesn’t just reward you for one hop — it stacks across three levels.
After downloading Grass, you receive a referral link to invite others. Each time your referral link results in a successful download, your Uptime Points will increase by 20% of your referred user’s Uptime Points indefinitely.
Crucially,
this bonus is awarded to the referrer and does not reduce the points earned by the referred user.
Your friend loses nothing; you simply earn on top.
The structure goes deeper.
When someone you have invited shares their invite, your Uptime Points will increase by 10% of that secondary referee’s Uptime Points indefinitely.
And there’s a third tier:
when someone within the second level of your referral network shares an invite, your Uptime Points will grow by 5% of the third-level referee’s uptime points indefinitely.
So if you recruit five active friends, and each of them recruits five more, you’re collecting passive point income from 25 additional people at the 10% rate — plus whatever flows through the third tier beneath them.
**Milestone bonuses on top of the percentage commissions**
Ready to start earning?
The percentage commissions are ongoing, but there are also one-time bonuses tied to activity milestones.
When you reach 100 hours of uptime (roughly 4.17 days of constant connection time), you earn a 5,000-point bonus.
Your referrals get this same bonus when they hit the milestone — and you benefit too:
when your tier-one referrals hit the 100-hour milestone, they get their 5,000 Grass Points, and you, separately, earn 2,500 Points.
The system also features ranks, such as Iron and Titan, based on referral count, with higher ranks offering increased bonus points.
Building your referral network therefore compounds in two ways: more ongoing percentage income, and a faster path up the tier ladder.
**A note on what referral commissions count toward**
One detail that trips up new users:
tier rank is calculated from Uptime Points only — Network Points and referral commissions do not count toward tier progression.
So the commissions you earn from your referrals boost your point balance for reward purposes, but won’t directly push you up the rank ladder. Your own active uptime is what drives tier advancement.
**How to get started — step by step**
Getting into the Grass referral program takes about five minutes. Install the official Grass desktop app (the browser extension has been phased out —
the Grass browser extension is no longer available, so you need to install the Desktop app to continue earning rewards
). Log in, let the app run in the background, and your referral link will appear in your dashboard.
Your Grass app dashboard is your mission control center — regularly check it to confirm you’re connected to the network, see your daily and total Grass Points earned, and track your progress toward your next bonus and tier goals.
Share your link with people who are likely to stay active — friends who work from home with consistent internet, for example, will generate far more referral points for you than casual users who connect occasionally.
Encourage primary referrals to share the Grass app themselves, creating secondary and tertiary levels to compound earnings. Share successful strategies to help friends build their own trees — as referrals become successful referrers, everyone benefits.
**What to realistically expect**
The Grass referral program rewards consistency and network-building, not overnight windfalls.
Users are rewarded based on their participation in the Grass Network, as determined by their uptime on the application, the quality of the bandwidth they contribute, their location, the amount of their bandwidth actually used by the network, and any bonuses and referral rewards earned.
All of those variables mean your actual payout will differ from someone else’s even if you have the same number of referrals. Keep the app running, encourage your referrals to do the same, and check the official Grass dashboard and announcements for updates — the program has evolved before and likely will again.
