Shiba Inu news today is dominated by a trio of developments that landed within a 48-hour window: Binance officially raised SHIB’s collateral ratio, the token’s burn rate posted a dramatic percentage jump, and Shibarium transaction volumes surged — all while the token hugs a critical price level that traders are watching closely.
The headline event took effect today.
Binance lifted the collateral ratios assigned to seven crypto assets, with Shiba Inu moving from 50% to 60%.
On cross-margin accounts, this ratio determines how much a user can borrow or transfer out against an asset. In portfolio margin, ratios and leverage factor into Binance’s Unified Maintenance Margin Ratio, a measure tied to liquidation risk.
In practical terms, SHIB holders on Binance’s margin products now get slightly more borrowing power per token held as collateral — a quiet but meaningful acknowledgment of the asset’s standing on the world’s largest exchange.
Binance cautioned that collateral ratio and leverage changes directly affect the Unified Maintenance Margin Ratio under Portfolio Margin, urging users to monitor positions closely to avoid potential liquidation risks.
The change took effect at 06:00 UTC on October 23 and was expected to complete within roughly 30 minutes. It is worth noting that
the development is considered neutral-to-cautious for SHIB. It reflects standard exchange risk management and does not directly affect spot trading, but it could reduce leveraged buying power for some traders, potentially dampening speculative activity in the short term.
On the supply side, community trackers lit up after Shibburn data showed the SHIB burn rate jumping 492% in a 24-hour period around October 21.
According to Shibburn, the team and community scorched almost 2.7 million SHIB in that window, a 492% increase from the previous day. The burning program is a core part of the ecosystem, designed to gradually reduce the token’s vast supply. Nearly 2.7 million coins may sound impressive, yet the USD value of those tokens was only about $13 — and far more aggressive burns will likely be needed to meaningfully affect SHIB’s supply dynamics.
As market trackers pointed out, recent burn-rate headlines can be misleading: the 492% and 2,349% spikes seen this week involved burns worth only about $13 and $5, respectively. On October 19 the burn rate jumped 2,349% on about 1.10 million SHIB, worth about $5. On October 21 it rose 492% on about 2.7 million SHIB, worth about $13.
The math behind the headlines is straightforward — tiny absolute burns produce giant percentage moves when baseline activity is near zero.
In total, about 410.85 trillion SHIB — roughly 41% of the original 1 quadrillion supply — has been burned to date, with almost all of it traced to Vitalik Buterin’s single burn of about 410.24 trillion SHIB in May 2021.
Alongside the burn noise, Shibarium, SHIB’s layer-2 network, showed a notable uptick in activity.
Shibarium daily transactions rose 370% to 7,300 in the same period.
That is a meaningful rebound in on-chain activity, though context matters — the network has been running well below its earlier peak usage levels for much of the quarter.
For holders, the exchange reserve picture is the harder data point to ignore.
SHIB exchange reserves recently climbed to 87.16 trillion tokens, a 0.08% increase in 24 hours, with inflows outpacing outflows. The USD value of those reserves rose to $449.76 million.
With SHIB’s exchange flow sitting at a net balance of 77.29 billion SHIB as of October 23, the amount of SHIB tokens being sent to exchanges for sale over the last day was substantially higher than the amount removed from exchanges for buying purposes.
More tokens parked on exchanges typically means more readily available selling supply, which can cap price rallies or add downward pressure.
SHIB was trading at $0.00000508, up 1.35% over the prior 24 hours, as of October 23, 2026.
That puts the token
still roughly 94.2% below its 2021 all-time high.
What to watch next:
SHIB traders are looking ahead to the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision, due at the October 27 to 28, 2026 meeting, as inflation concerns remain.
Any broad risk-on shift from a dovish Fed signal could provide tailwinds for meme coins, while a hawkish surprise could intensify selling pressure at current levels. Shibarium’s ability to sustain its transaction recovery and whether exchange reserves begin to reverse course will be the key on-chain signals to monitor in the days ahead.
